Hey there, the new band highlight was brought to you by Darth Tofu. Thanks a lot Tofu I hope I picked the right picture. The music really sounds quite epic and I think I know some songs from movie trailers.

I've been basically not around at all this summer, I guess this will change once I work less and once it gets so cold that I'd rather stay inside than go outside. :D

Anyways I came across a band I can use for a band highlight so I'll do the next one.

So how are all of you doing?
I actually had a great summer even though things started pretty nasty I got better after all. The only thing I kind of regret is that I didn't go on vacation abroad and that I didn't visit any concerts either. I kind of wanted to go to the opera but in the end I never did. Well I still got some time so maybe I'll get to do at least one of these.

Hey guys stopping by to write something.You know, it's not like I'm not visiting the site anymore, I've just kinda turned into a lazy lurker.
Anyways I like our new layout and I'd really like to make a wall with her one day, I'll only have to learn how to draw first.

I dunno about the Jackson obituary, does someone want to write a BH about him or something like that? I don't know much about him and I only liked his older songs. I actually think I was pretty traumatized by most of the stuff he performed in the 90's.

I've never been to Disneyland only to the Europa Park .

Soooooo,
I updated the UP with Tofu's BH (you rock :D) I hope the picture is right.
I haven't posted in ages, I know however I can assure you that I'll make at least one entry for the contest, I already chose a song and scan now all I have to do is get to work. ^_^'

@Pande: thanks for your suggestion and the praise, so now I'm thinking about using an Art-Nouveau border with waterlilies in it.

So I finally managed to update the Band Highlight. It's funny, I really just heard their song Dreamheart on the radio this morning and decided I'd make my Band Highlight about them.
As always feel free to point out errors, or for admins feel free to correct them. XD

I'll got to bed now because I have to get up 6 o'clock in the morning and it's already past midnight. I'll be back tomorrow.

Thanks for the feedback Tofu, I'm glad the grammar is alright. I'm always a little worried I might sound like an imbecile because of some stupid mistakes.

This is probably a little early but are there already volunteers for the next band highlight? If not I'll cover it again (probably write it in advance though XD). I thought that theoretically we could also have group members write a band highlight once in a while (in case someone's interested), that way members could also share their favourite bands not just us admins.

Thanks for your suggestion Tofu, art nouveau background sounds actually quite good. I think that I'll postpone working on this vector for a while though, looking at it I found some mistakes on her clothing and it kinda annoys me. I'll gladly take more advice on what to do with it though.

About Aozoraskies' suggestion of introducing an artist's background information. I think that could be the purpose of a entireley new group. It actually sounds quite appealing to me but I also think it could be very hard to collect some information, unless you chose a rather famous artists.

I like movie soundtracks a lot too. My favourites are from "Le fabuleux destin d'Amelie Poulain" and "Road to Perdition".

I'd also like to ask the group members for some advice, it's not music related but I hope you guys will help me out. Maybe you'll remember that I like this GuoGuo scan, I got a tablet for Christmas (which I can't use correctly yet, lol) and so I thought I might try to work a little with it. Out came this weird mix of GuoGuo and Gankutsuou (the vector isn't as crappy as the image suggests). So now my question: What should I do with the bg? I don't have any ideas as to what I could do.

Last but not least, here's my newest music inspired wallie.

The inspiration was this song, the band is my current obsession even though it's not really a music genre I dig that much. Their lyrics are hilarious so if you want a rough translation to understand it better I might provide it.

btw: Dev has a harem of transvestites? Did I miss something? <_<

My goodness that's definitely a difficult scan to wall, good luck to you. I'm kind of stuck with a vector myself, I'd love to finish it but I'm too lazy somehow. DX
The Guo scans are great, this one's my favourite, I've pondered wether I should wall it or not for several times now. But somehow I think it'd be too much work to vector it and I don't know what to make of her pose/what to use as a bg.

@Dev:
I'm not around long enough again to judge the new band highlight, but what I liked about the old one was the fact that you could try to get people hooked on a band you like. I wonder if that aspect gets lost with the new highlight.

@DarthTofu:
So this programm has the functions of a browser and a music player? Sounds like I might want to check it out (I'm currently using Foxy Tunes to manage my Winamp while browsing). How's this songbird working for you so far?

Oh my goodness. I'm back guys, I finally made it. I guess there's a whole lot of things to organize like our contest, some band highlights and so on right?
I just noticed that we were featured group in the MT-Maigetsu, that's awesome, I was absent for so long but I'm still kind of proud. :D

Getting favs is really the best way to collect credits (by the way your Nabari wall looks great). I'm just too lazy to thank people for their favs so I only write some thanks for the comments I recieved. I think comments are more valuable anyways.

About the Dong people: I'm sure there are ways to record their songs so they won't be lost even if the younger ones refuse to learn them.
I love all those Guo Guo scans too, they're awesome. I'd love to wall some of them but it seems like so much work to vector them and I'm such an impatient person. Sometimes I also like to listen to chinese music (especially the pipa).

By "over there" do you mean the US? I went to school in Germany and we also learned about things like cloning in biology. I remember that we learned some things about the American educational system in our english lessons too. I believe pupils over there get to choose their subjects pretty early, don't they (I'm just guessing)? Well there should be enough Americans around to answer your question anyways.

It's good to be around again, I do hope I'll be of some use. XD

Hey guys just dropping by to tell you that I still don't have a connection at my place, so I'm writing this at my boyfriend's house. As soon as I have free internet access again I'll try to make up for everything by being the best group admin MT has seen so far. ^_^'
You know I felt like I had missed lots of Band Highlights but after looking at the archive (god bless you Pande for making it) I noticed I only missed two. Anyways great Highlight for this week Pande. I hope I can do another one once I get my internet back.

Hey guys, I'm back as well not for long though because currently I'm moving and I don't have a connection at our new house yet. So I'll be a little absent, I'll try to drop by from time to time but I won't promise anything.

@Pande: I'm glad you like Mando Diao. I already thought nobody cared about it. XD

@Dev: School and university just started, so it's probably normal that there's a little less activity. I think we have pretty active members though, there are lots of groups that are off worse. I'll comment on the band highlight once I get to listen to some of the songs. :)

Yay, contest!
I'd rather hold a walling contest than one for banners, but we can have a poll to decide which on we pick. I kinda get the feeling I should register for a MSN account so we admins can discuss things easier (or you guys get one for ICQ XD).

@Aozoraskies: Good luck for your exams. I wouldn't want to hold the contest off till December to tell the truth. But how about a Christmas/New Year contest around December?

And I totally agree on Avril Lavigne, it's weird ever since she died her hair.
I'm also very sick of her "girlfriend song". XD

I'm not that knowledgable either I had to look some things up on Wikipedia, I just wanted to clear things up a little. I also read about those damn lotus flowers, Odysseus and his crew ended up on an island were people fed on narcotic and addictive lotus-flowers. Really that just sounds too crazy. XD

It would have cost you money? The choirs I joined always were happy that people participated at all. I never took real lessons in singing and I can't really sing the notes from sheet, I always had to hear the song before I could sing it and I also had to memorize it quickly. Some girls in my school were taking real singing lessons though and the differnece was actually noticeable.
I'm sure your voice didn't get crappy just because you couldn't train.

I also listened to "Beirut" a little and I have to say they really make catchy music. The music video for Elephant Gun was kind of great too. XD

Well then, time for me to reconquer it.

I've only seen one opera so far, "Die Zauberfloete" by Mozart and it was a school performance (though we had some professionals too). I don't know a lot of operas but my grandmother is a huge fan of operas, especially Verdi ones.
Lately I've taken a real liking to ballet music, my absolute favourites are "Scheherazade" by Rimsky-Korsakov and "The Nutcracker" by Tchaikovsky.
The only instrument I really learned to play was the flute (recorder), we all had to learn it in our music lessons. I like singing a lot better than playing an instrument though. Has anyone here ever sung in a choir? I did once in school and as a hobby in a (almost ashamed to say it) christian one. Actually it's kind of ironic considering I'm an atheist (deist at best).

About Greek mythology: The Illiad and Odyssey are both epic poems by Homer. The Illiad is mainly about the Trojan War (think about the movie) whereas the Odyssey is about Odysseus and his men trying to get back to Ithacaa after the Trojan War. The Sirens are part of the Odyssey (as well as other stories), they're mostly depicted as a mixture of birds and women I think. Their beautiful songs would enchant sailors and lure them closer to their island were they'd shipwreck. Odysseus thus ordered his men to plug their ears with wax but he himself was curious how the sirens sounded so he ordered his men to tie him to the mast.
I also looked up harpies, they're similar to sirens in apperance I guess but it seemed to me they're more vicious. They're supposed to torture and abduct people in Tartarus (ancient greek hell). On their island Strophades they also stole the travellers food condemming them to starvation should they not leave.

You know I actually considered it could be Harry Connick (one of the few swing Jazz artists I know), but then I kind of discarded the thought.
There's also this great song of his, which actually inspired that one (or so I heard).
